[Ilugc] eth1 error

one of my machine's nic(eth1) suddenly started emiting an error :
"Hw. address read/write mishap 2"
It has a LAN ip assigned to it and i couldnt ping to same from LAN.
what could be the problem ? any ideas ?
Please tell the following:
1. kernel version.
2. Identify NIC, with it's type, name, and version information.
3. Did you do anything like update kernel/module?
4. How is the network like? Quite large number of simultaneous users?
