just do "apt-get install gaim" . The gaim package is there in the 3 cds 
i gave u (i dont remember which cd exactly). If u havent done so already 
add your cdrom to the apt-get sources.list file using the apt-cdrom command.

CDs of sarge which does not have many dependencies that are required
for gaim installation.  to name the required files... libgnutls11-dev
(>= 1.0.16-5), tcl8.4-dev, tk8.4-dev and some more. So i need those
CDs that have these packages. I would be happy if some one has debian
CDs that have gnome development packages.. which will have the above
required files.
Please let me know if some of u have these CDs.

btw.. Prashanth how do use gaim in debian ?
do u have other CDs?
 

partho was busy... he hasnt given me the cds yet... i will mail u as 
soon as i get it
