I'm not so sure. PHP is not exactly a general purpose language. It's
meant for writing web apps. And db-driven ones at that. They are bound
to get big sooner or later. Not providing for re-use and maintainability
is a fairly big omission, imho.
*shrug*. Buzzwords mean nothing. As with any language, things have
organically grown to fit more and more things the original implementors
hadn't envisioned and over a period of time, some of the things, that
looked bright at one point aren't that good of a idea, anymore.
PHP allows more people to hack together something and since the barrier
to entry is low, you get more quick hacks than anything else. More of
the mainstream apps like mediawiki or wordpress, probably offers a
better perspective compared to a random PHP web app. I suggest, looking
into those.
