Find is real time, locate uses an old database. It is much faster but
not current. It won't show
files changed after the DB was built. You can rebuild the DB using the
updatedb(8) command.

Windows filesystems are very different from Linux filesystems. I
wonder how to answer this question.
I am not really a file systems guy.
I care about stability and disk write performance and there UNIX file
systems are quite good.
Recovery from crashes like power failures and such also matter.
