You wanted VoIP traffic generator. 
http://sipp.sourceforge.net/ is a free SIP traffic
generator mentioned in the website I sent.

Also SIP is a pure software thingy; so u might 
find it useful especially since u don't have Digium
hardware. 

You mentioned that you are using g.729 codec. Do u
want to stress test it? 

Can u be more specific as to what exactly u r looking
for. Asterisk supports several features. Which ones
do u want to test?

It is possible that with a simple combo of few command
line UNIX tools u may be able to achieve ur goal.

If u tell us clearly what u r trying to achieve then
we may be in a better position to help u out.

Also let me know where Digium cards are available and
at what cost? T1 or E1? Do u get it in Richie street?

How did you get Asterisk working? Do you have a
card
from Digium? Can you buy it in India? Or do you
have some other multiport serial card too ?

I guess some components of Asterisk will work
without
any specialized hw.
