Folks,
Today's talk at IISc was one of the best I've heard from
RMS. He spoke for about 2.5 hours non-stop, and the talk was broad-
ranging, forceful and uncompromising. He spoke about GNU, FSF, DMCA,
DRM, SW patents, Free Trade/WTO, Copyright/Piracy etc. I didn't
necessarily agree with everything that was said, but it was very
clearly enunciated.
I Also picked up the GNU lapel pin that RMS was selling after the
talk as fund-raising activities for FSF - it's a very nicely made trinket
for Rs.200, gold-plated with black lacquer inlay, with the GNU head in
gold. He sold about a dozen pins, not too bad for about the 10 minutes
they were on display. Also some GNU stickers as freebies.
I also caused a minor embarrassment - I volunteered to ferry RMS,
Prof. Gopinath (CSA, IISc), and a few others to a lunch appointment, and
the car refused to start just after RMS got into it. RMS and the others
took an auto and went for lunch, while I dropped out and tried to fix the
car. Missed opportunity!
Anyways, he's going to be around until the GPLv3 conference, so
more updates later (if there's anything to report). Right now, I gotta
go see a man about a car.
