I myself use GNU Emacs and Gnus to read my mail under both OSes.

I have had many false starts with using Emacs, but have never gotten to
using it regularly.
In an office environment, where i get various attachments in proprietary
formats, how do i use emacs for my mailing requirements ? Does GNU
Emacs/Windows allow me to launch external Windows programs for these
requirements ?
Any hints on starting out on this route would be wonderful...
