"rpm" fails on the 2.6 kernel for somereason., I dont know why. I
faced the problem when i tried changing the kernel of a RH machine
here in the campus to a 2.6.7. I did a strace on rpm and found
that it is getting a timeout on the select system call. I wonder
why they use select in rpm. But is this something to do with the
2.6 or am i missing something?
the original rh9 version of rpm is a problem... upgrade to the 4.2.x
version of rpm - big pain in itself
then upgrade glibc (glibc-common, glibc-devel, glibc-utils). you may
have to rpm -Uvh --force the install - maybe do a --force --nodeps as
well - even bigger pain
follow the howto sivasankar chander posted in ilugc some days back about
getting 2.6 to work on rh 7.3
