have the latitude to waste the money on a potentially unscrupulous
vendor.
that is correct - you do not need purchase and receipt - just give us
the name of the company and the product and we will all send mail to
the company asking about it with copy to gplviolations email id.
The FSF always pursues these cases very quietly. They have never
sought to humiliate any company in any of the cases so far. First they
send them a private notice and most cases, believe it or not, have
been sorted out this way - i.e, out of court.
If it's an MNC reseller it might be an ignorant local branch, check
the policy of the parent company. Does the website have the
modifications to the GPLd code somewhere ? Never attribute to malice
what can be explained by ignorance. Exhaust the more obvious
possibilities first.
