During installation, the partition types are checked to ensure that
you don't accidentally damage any partitions, for example from another
OS.
Post-installation, when you are using the system, GNU/Linux uses
/etc/fstab, and ignores the partition type even though you can modify
it with fdisk/cfdisk.
