The definitive book for embedded mips programming is Dominic
Sweetman's 'See MIPS Run'. It is a brilliantly written book and is a
standard reference in many commercial embedded software shops. I am
not sure if there is an Indian edition available... but I am sure
someone like Eswar or Landmark will be able to order the US edition
for you. If you are a professional MIPS programmer, it's worth every
bit of its $40 price tag.
Apart from detailed info about the MIPS architecture, the book also
has very clear discussions about many general programming topics, like
compiler optimizations, portability, endian issues (which is the
clearest and most comprehensive treatment of the subject I have come
across anywhere) and such.
