Any comment on using a DVCS like hg, git, bazaar as an alternate for backup
tools ? Any pros and cons in doing so ?

IIRC, Unison is a repository sync utility and not a back up utility
alone. Rsync would be a back up utility as it backs up from a primary
store to a secondary store. Unison is a two way sync using rsync as
the underlying mechanism. The two repositories, thus would be peers
and would be brought to the same state.
Unison operating in abck up mode is a special case.
