I think it's important for students to get a historical perspective, in
spite of the argument that it has no place in a technical course.
Mention must be made of the licences but there would be no point in
splitting legal hairs between them.  Of course, this will have to go into
the classroom course -- I can't imagine doing practicals on the GPL
except if were a lawyer ;-P !

I fully agree with you, regd. historical perspective.

We have to just tell them what each of this license is and the
differences.  Forgot to add LGPL.

20 to 30 minutes on this topic is enough.  This topic is not for
examination but just for awareness.
