Posting a job opening
in .NET is _not_ acceptable by any standards in this
mailing list. And
And would not to be useful too, as no .NET guy would be subsrcibed to this
list, besides it only brings heated arguments.
Not sure about that because I have received response to this posting already.
We prefer people with exposure to Linux/*BSD even if it is for programming
on platforms like Java/.NET because typically these users have more than a
passing interest in computer science and have better grasp of computer
fundamentals. They also tend to have a more inquisitive mind, and a
tendency to not shy away for experimentation which are both desirable
qualities in an engineer. Most of our computers dual boot windows and
linux.
On a related note - If you want to be taken seriously as an analyst and
if you want to make an informed decision on the choice of technology to
best address a problem a client is facing, you must be familiar with
atleast two platforms - the platforms may be Linux + Windows, FreeBSD +
Windows etc.
The same applies to technology as well - in terms of the type of people I
look out for, I prefer those who are comfortable with atleast two
platforms - .NET + Java, C++ + Java, Java + PHP etc. I vastly prefer those
with reasonable skills on multiple platforms and expert level skills in
atleast one platform. That explains how this job was posted on this
mailing list.
Also, I will wager that there are multiple people on this forum who have
programmed for the .NET platform, and perhaps many more who have
programmed for Java. I have programmed professionally on all three - .NET,
Java and in C/C++ for Linux and ofcourse PHP.
