BRAS will serve address from a configured poll like DHCP does. If
the > pool is a public pool, then public IP and likewise for
private IP.
BSNL for e.g serves out public IP addresses while I believe some
others like serve private addresses. If an ISP serves private
addresses, he will NAT and also take care that common apps work
whatever protocol they may use.
Normally ISP will try to avoid NAT at BRAS. Bcoz, 1st: NAT is
resource consuming task, due to need of packet level processing.
2nd: To answer Legal and security issues, like threat mail, ISP
should maintain packet level logs for all the subscribers for nearly
6 months.
