Hi,
Please ensure the following.
a) The permission for ~/.ssh/ directory is 700
b) The permission for ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file is 600
c) You are trying puggy.symonds.net not symonds.net, unless you have an
entry in your /etc/hosts.
IIAC,at symonds.net
$ ssh -V
ssh: SSH Secure Shell 3.2.0 (non-commercial version) on
i686-pc-linux-gnu
Hope it helps.

I guess there would be a few people here having accounts on symonds.net
and would have public key authentication working. I have an account in
symonds.net and I am unable to do public key authentication in SSH.
This is what I did
$ ssh-keygen -t dsa
$ ssh-copyid -i ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub symonds.net
(The above command copies the contents of id_dsa.pub to
~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the remote machine)
But I am not able to login without a password. The same thing works when
logging to a machine in my school.
At my home
$ ssh -V
OpenSSH_3.8.1p1 Debian 1:3.8.1p1-8, OpenSSL 0.9.7d 17 Mar 2004
At symonds.net
$ ssh -V
OpenSSH_3.4p1 Debian 1:3.4p1-1.woody.3, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL
0x0090603f
At my school
$ ssh -V
OpenSSH_3.8p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0.9.7d 17 Mar 2004
Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks,
Suriya
