Enable 'sound' and 'alsa' service for
your current runlevel. You could try
the following commands as root user on
the console/terminal:
ln -s /etc/init.d/sound /etc/rc0.d/K69sound
ln -s /etc/init.d/sound /etc/rc6.d/K69sound
ln -s /etc/init.d/sound /etc/rc3.d/S18sound
ln -s /etc/init.d/sound /etc/rc5.d/S18sound
ln -s /etc/init.d/alsa /etc/rc0.d/K70alsa
ln -s /etc/init.d/alsa /etc/rc6.d/K70alsa
ln -s /etc/init.d/sound /etc/rc3.d/S17alsa
ln -s /etc/init.d/sound /etc/rc5.d/S17alsa
Alternatively, there should be some gui-tool
on Mandrake that lets you automate this task
(enabling/disabling via checkbox).
Hope this solves the problem.
