Dear Toufeeq,
Thanks a lot for the information. The thread that you linked to actually
talks about the ECS G 732 Notebook based on the SIS962 chipset and using a
standard PATA HDD. Both of which are supported on Linux.
My computer uses the SIS965L chipset which is not supported. So no luck
there either. I am writing the driver for the SIS965L now since there does
not appear to be any other way.
Thanks anyway.
Prem
Hi,
have a look at this thread concerning SiS IDE chipsets
Thanks for the information. Are you using the exact same motherboard -
Asus K8S-MX?
The problem is with the southbridge chipset on the motherboard - SIS
965L,
which is not currently supported in the Linux kernel as of 2.6.11 as far
as I know. I have tried using FreeBSD 5.4 as well - but no luck, it does
appear that the FreeBSD 6 CURRENT might have the update for handling the
SIS 965L, but there are no ISO images available and I don't have the
time
or the energy to download and recompile the entire FreeBSD distribution
from source.

This is applicable for SuSe 9.3 , but can you poke around in your
FC/FBSD/Debian Installation if a similar option can be passed to the
installation process.
