I only know the appropriate phrase in Hindi so Tamil speaking people
should correct me:
              Saas bhi kabhi bahu thi
      (The mother-in-law was once a daughter-in-law too)

There was a release titled "Kelunga Maamiyaare, neengalum marumagal
thaan" which roughly works out to an equivalent meaning ("Saas bhi
bahu hai" though). :-)
