i doubt they packed HD Audio with the repo binaries. But hey if u
compile your own kernel you get a p4 optimised kernel compared to i686
;-)

It does have intel HD audio driver compiled. And, as you say, it is
always better to compile your own kernel, so that you can keep what
you want and get rid of all unnecessary drivers. But the OP wanted to
avoid that...
