Okay let us look at my case.
My case is not typical since my attitude is thoroughly Western,
totally unfit for India, my approach
completely different from those of others I see around.
Still it will serve as a case.
Long long long ago when I started my career I knew nothing of
programming having started off from an ECE
background. I was scared of coding. Problem solving and making my
brain work was too painful.
I was always very good at math and studies.
Now after I got fired in California when I went there as a crypto
consultant, after I did some soul searching as
to how I wanted to see myself dying I resolved to learn coding.
And I learnt perl and C. That was in 2003.
I had a great boss and I learnt a lot from him but I really taught
myself. This has been the case even from my childhood
days in Lakshadweep.
I told you, my case is not typical.
Today I run more than 12 open source projects, I almost became an
OpenBSD dev(not very interesting) and I feel that
technically I don't have any fear to learn something new.
This happened because I had a steadfast view to learn coding.
And that I did over a long period. Over 18 months or so.
Once I broke the mental issues, the cultural issues and the attitude
problems rest was easy.
To learn a language like Python or perl is much easier than learning C.
One can begin programming in Python and slowly graduate to Perl and then to C.
But hoping to learn in sequence is like trying to live life in sequence.
Never happens.
Take up something easy, keep browsing, keep reading, be disciplined
and worship Goddess Saraswathy daily.
You will get there. Slowly.
Slow and steady.
Never bother about job or money. That will come after you have coding ability.
If you are handsome girls will come after you...
