I too have got a HP dv6000 series laptop. I was about to install
Ubuntu on it. But, I can't hear any sound at all from the PC (Neither
inbuilt nor external). So, I have put the installation on hold for
sometime.
I was trying with Kubuntu 7.10 live CD. and yes, I couldn't get the
wifi working either nor the webcam.. I have to do a lot of googling
around before I can start installing I guess.
