Ruby is not just a scripting language, you can do a lot with it.

it all depends on what is meant by a 'scripting language'. I had always
thought that a scripting language is one where there is no need to
compile the code in order to run it. But there seems to be a lot of
confusion about the term. Interpreted language also seems to be the same
- but again it looks like there is no agreement on the meaning of the
term. I call perl, python and ruby scripting languages simply because I
can write code and see the result at once without all sorts of compiling
and linking. But anyway there is nothing derogatory about calling a
language a scripting language.
