If MPlayer failed to recognise your graphics hardware, I doubt it if
xine/totem would. Rather, you must try reconfiguring your Linux kernel
with support for video hardware acceleration/DRI and/or enable hardware
accelaration in your X configuration.
Can you run the '/sbin/lspci' command as root and let us know what the
'VGA compatible controller:' entry shows up ?
