I have just attended the Free (Libre) Software Meeting held at Nancy, France.

This is an annual meeting of free software developers and experts from
across the globe.
I presented seminars on free software usage for patient and healthcare
data privacy and security for the EU member states. We were also able to
showcase some of the software currently under development for the
monitoring of chronic diseases in India.
I was able to meet many of the primary developers of many interesting
F/LOSS software including:
- GDL - GNU Data Language
- R - Another language used for statistical studies
- Octave - An application growing more and more similar to Mathlab
- MedInTux - An excellent healthcare product developed by a very small team
- Zope 3
- TurboGears - A Python application framework
- RoR
- LinBox - Linux directory service
- ObjectWeb - JAVA Middleware
- GoSA2 - A package for managing directory services including LDAP
- TinyERP
- RoseGarden - An audio authoring / composing tool.
- Blender - An excellent tutorial was presented
- NetBSD - one of the primary maintainers was available.
- OpenBSD
- OpenWengo
I was somewhat disappointed with the lacklustre show from India
considering that F/LOSS software is used a lot here. I was only one of two
Indians to participate in any capacity in this conference. The other
Indian and I were team members and we presented some of the seminars
together - he is a physician.
It may be interesting to look at why India doesn't contribute as much to
F/LOSS as might be expected.
