I think this was resolved using a newer pango library about one year
or so ago.
So your only option would seem to be to get a newer pango library and
probably a newer firefox.
Please test the page using a new-ish Live CD for ubuntu or use a
chroot with a new firefox. If that works then you have to decide how
to upgrade.
