Regarding Oo2.0, Linspire warehouse is not having Tamil locale
Pack(rather it has hindi,punjabi,gujarati!).I saw you to be the author again
;) in the Oo site. Any idea where can i get the locale pack for Oo2.0?


Hi Chakkaradeep,
From the current version of OpenOffice(v 2.0.3) onwards, Tamil language
pack is made available by openoffice itself.
You can find the Tamil language pack (ta-IN) in this URL:
http://oootranslation.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/2.0.3rc7/

Steps to install tamil pack:
1. Install english version of OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 first (you can get it
from http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.3/index.html ;)

2. Download and install the tamil language pack for your OS (seperate
language pack is available for linux/windows & Solaris) from
http://oootranslation.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/2.0.3rc7/

3. Open the openoffice.org , go to
Tools --> Options --> Language Settings --> Languages
There there we can choose the Language of "User Interface".  Here Choose
Tamil,

4. Close OpenOffice and open again. now you should be able to see the
interface in tamil.

Please try and let us know if it works fine in Linspire..


I tried as above in FC3 and Linspire.

For Linspire I think something is missing. I installed the Debian
UnstableTamil Language Package(as Linspire doesnt have Tamil :( ) and after
selection, i got all text in squares ! (Tamil Font is installed) ! .
However, when I installed the Hindi Pack for Oo which Linspire has by
default, Oo worked perfectly.

In FC3, I uninstalled Oo 1.1 and installed Oo 2.0 and the Tamil Translation
pack and hurray !, Oo in Tamil !

In my custom built FC3 distro, I got the same squares as how I got in
Linspire.

Is Oo using some specific tamil font which i have to install?
