Pursuit of knowledge is also a profession and not a hobby, at least for a large 
number of academics.

Seen few journals for my cousin's research work and all were paid :(

Most good journals require a large amount of money to process each article / 
paper. It takes a lot of effort for secretarial / editorial staff to maintain 
good quality. Still a lot of medical journals go free after a period of self 
imposed restricted / paid access. This period usually varies from 5 to 10 
years. Must be same for other academic disciplines also.

Why don't libraries or particular universities publish their research
fellows work for free of cost? It means they are looking for business and
not for serving to society (actually they meant for the latter purpose).

Difficult to serve on empty stomach.
