[Ilugc] Do I need GRUB or LILO

I have only linux in my box and is lilo or grub a neccesary one ?
I know to set timeout to 0 in case of grub and so incase of lilo but
when i  switch on the PC i would like to see the linux kernel
immediately loading........
Can i do that?
