I made enquiries about the VSNL broadband service that's being
advertised by various agents, and here is some of the info I've
obtained:
1. There are several plans, related to the monthly download size:
a) 250 MB for Rs.500, Rs.1.75/MB above this.
b) 500 MB for Rs.875 (<- note: this is competitive with BSNL DIAS)
c) 1000 MB for Rs.1500
In all cases, there's a one-time installation charge of Rs.3500, of
which Rs.1000 is refundable.
2. It uses a dry pair (cable) that's run from their remote server site
(something like a DSLAM) to the client. Not sure if it actually
uses standards-based DSL signalling, but it's probable. It is an
always-on, 512 kbps service.
3. You have a choice of using a USB DSL modem, or a DSL-to-Ethernet
gateway device (the latter is more useful for Linux). There's also
a router device that they're peddling for Rs.9000.
4. I asked if the line protocol was PPPoE - he didn't understand the
question, but claimed that there's both Windows and Linux support.
It seems to suggest a PPPoE connection, but it might just be NAT'ed IP
from their server.
5. It's available in some areas, including Guindy/Ekkatuthangal - it depends
on where they have their DSLAMs.

I had similar problems while upgrading to 2.6.7.I had the mkinitrdI did this any now it is detecting the hdd. Thanks. But still the
correct.Check during configuration of kernel if the IDE disk driver
support is built into the kernel rather than as module.I did this and
it started working.

they support both Windows and Gnu/Linux.
But, we have to "support" Gnu/Linux ourselves, by searching for the
driver for ethernet card if required, and compiling and installing
RP-PPPoE. Iqara service generally good.
But in some ways, counting bytes sent and received is taking away some
of the freedom in browsing freely. I use iqara for _email_ only without
having to pay for a telephone call every time I check mail. But, I use
bsnl/vsnl for browsing, though it is relatively slow.

Hello,
I'm pulling my hair out and have been searching for some answers without
any success. I have Fedora Core 2 installed in my 20GB PATA drive and
got Windows XP in my 80 GB SATA drive. I got grub installed in my PATA
drive and all I need is for grub to boot windows XP which resides on my
SATA drive.
If I go into the BIOS and change the hard disk order giving SATA the
higher priority, then it does not show grub. That's fine. If PATA is
given a higher priority, it shows the grub menu but shows NTLDR missing
when I go into WindowsXP.
Here's a basic run down of my drive set up.
Primary Master: Hard drive with Fedora Core 2 and grub
Secondary Master: Cd-rom drive
Secondary Slave: dvd-rom drive
SATA Port 1: SATA drive with Windows XP.
