[Ilugc] Can't connect to local MySQL server

Hi everyone !  iam facing a problem with mysql(version 4.1.13).It was working
well on my pc but when  i connected my pc on to a different network i got the
following error.

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

 i had started the mysql service on my machine but still i was getting this 
error.
can anyone suggest something.
