[Ilugc] Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam moves to GNU/Linux platform

On Day 2, 60 teaching faculties from all 16 departments attended the
workshop. All of them were introduced to Mageia GNU/Linux.
Mageia , ahh the mandriva fork ! Any special reason for choosing this ?
The request from the college was
'Users should feel comfortable when working on GNU/Linux platform, for
their day-to-day work."
The reason for choosing "Mageia":
1. On the usability front, Mageia provides the look and feel similar to
Windows 7 when used with KDE4 for the users.
2. Software management using rpmdrake is much easier for the users, when
comparing with other distros. All teaching faculties easily configured the
software repository in their PCs and started searching/installing software
from the local server repository without requiring any assistance from
system admins / technical assistants.
3. Once the users become familiar with Mageia, then in the later stage
there won't be any difficulty when moving to other distro's. We have
planned for implementing distros like Fedora/Debian for Development &
Research purposes.
