Dear All,
I am searching for a opensource desktop dictionary application that can run
in GNU-Linux/Windows without need for internet connection.
Basically i am looking for features like wordweb windows application (
http://wordweb.info/free/ ;)
Can somebody point me to such applications. (couldnot find much from google)
Thanks & Regards,

If I were you I would just install dictd server on my local machine or LAN aand
use it.
I love the dictionary protocol (rfc2229) since it gives me a simple command
line utility called dict that talks over TCP and I just page it, grep it and
redirect it to get what I want.
They have some amazing dictionary collections...
It is all free.
And there is dict.aioe.org which actually serves wikipedia pages.
Do a
$dict rajnikant
:-)
It also suggests nearby matches in case you mis spell it.
There is also a utility called look in FreeBSD to check the spelling.
But its dictionaries are not perfect. I have not found the word,
"roistering" though I am able to find roister. Funny!
That way even wikipedia has lot of gaps and some errors.
Well, I guess this is the best thing to do for you.
regards,
Girish
