Sure, but "official kernel" is just a social norm than technical barrier.
Perhaps people are mis-understanding each other here.
Getting commit-access to a non-D VCS is rather like getting the status
of Debian Maintainer. The latter can be seen as "commit-access" to a
portion of the Debian repository.
So this _is_ a social norm being achieved by Senthil:
Someone or some group whom we respect has examined a candidate
and has declared the candidate "passed".
In such a case, IMHO the candidate deserves our plaudits.
The merit of implementing this social norm using a technical
barrier is of course debatable.
