For the future, how about a way to designate a different number of
days to keep RSS and podcasts on a per-feed basis; since some areas
one want to have more than others.

You cannot go through and physically delete articles from the rss
reader, but
you can set them to go away after a certain amount of days in the
RSS settings
menu. Find this under number 9 in the RSS program menu. As for
podcasts, if
you want to keep them indefinitely, moving them to a folder in the
hard drive
is probably the safest.
