Dear Listers,
Those of you who are already aware of this, or who have read this on
another one of my lists, please forgive this reminder:
If you are going away for awhile or for any other reason decide to set up
an "autoresponder" on your email -- PLEASE be sure to unsubscribe or at
least turn off the sending of email (i.e. set "vacation mode") on all the
lists to which you are subscribed BEFORE setting up the autoresponder.
Otherwise, when you next get a message from a list, your autoresponder will
send a reply back, and then the list will echo that back to you, and your
autoresponder will reply to that echo and ... tens or hundreds of messages
later, lots of mailboxes wind up filled to the max. Now some autoresponders
may be smart enough not to notify the same address twice, but recent
experience on two lists that I manage tell me that there are still some
that will go ahead and loop, so please play it safe.
And Happy Holidays!
Thanks, Joe Sullivan, List Administrator
