Michael Mirmak convened the meeting. No patents were declared.
Review of Minutes:
- Michael called for review of the minutes from the September 28 meeting. Mike
moved to approve the minutes. Arpad seconded. The minutes were approved
without objection.
- Michael called for review of the minutes from the October 5 meeting. Randy
moved to approve the minutes. Bob seconded. The minutes were approved
without objection.
Review of ARs:
- Michael to check for consistency in capitalization of words and phrases.
- He has put together a list of terms to go over in this meeting
Opens:
- None
List of terms:
Michael shared a list of terms used in the document, many of which are
capitalized. Bob asked how these terms were selected. Michael commented that
he went through each page of the document looking for nouns used as terms, but
afterwards he did a sort of that list to remove the duplicates. Thus, the
order of the list is based on an ASCII sort. Bob stated that the bracketed
keywords look correct. Michael also noted that he highlighted mistakes and
typographical errors in yellow.
Bob noted that the Buf_Ext_Ref, Buf_GC_Ref, Buf_PC_Ref, Buf_PD_Ref, and
Buf_PU_Ref should be changed to the [Receiver Threshold] naming convention. A
search and replace should be done to the document to reflect this change. Also
the Buf_I/O term should be consistent with the other BIRDs in the works which
refer to Buffer_I/O.
Mike noted that Buffer_Pin is only used in figure captions. Bob commented that
we should avoid using the underscore if it is not an official subparameter.
Bob asked about the terms "Component" and "Component PCB" and where they are
used. Michael asked about how these should be classified. He commented that
it might be good to classify each of the terms.
Bob also asked about the terms "Die", "Die Pad", and "Pin" in regards to how
they correspond to the Timing_location and Si_location [Component]
subparameters. He thought we should use the word "Pad" instead. And, that we
have "Die" and "Die Pad" meaning the same thing, but we should be consistent.
Michael took an AR to classify the terms in the list and note any possible
changes needed.
Bob commented that signal_name should be lower case, since it is lower case as
a column heading for the [Pin] keyword. It could become upper case if it
begins a sentence, but we should craft language to avoid that.
Bob noted that, in general, we can make enumerated names plural. Michael
agreed and noted that some of the terms with both plural and singular versions
might be comments that we can eliminate when the classification is done.
Mike noted that the terms "rail" and "supply" are used interchangeably in the
document. "Supply" is mostly used in the keywords, while "Rail" is used in the
text. He asked if there is any rationale for using one versus the other. Bob
agreed that we should take a look at their usage, and he thought we could
better define these terms. Mike wondered if the terms have been put in by
different editors of the document. Mike took an AR to discuss this with Walter
and get his thoughts on the wording.
Bob asked if both "rail" and "supply" are used in the IBIS specification.
Michael thought they are used interchangeably in the IBIS specification. Mike
commented that at a minimum something should be done to define these terms.
Interconnect BIRD draft 41 Review:
Radek asked about the Unused_terminal_termination. He commented that the term
Unused_port_termination would be more appropriate.
Michael asked if we need to add a description of IBIS-ISS nodes under the
Terminal_number sections. He asked if this is correctly defined in the current
BIRD draft.
Bob noted that the Unused_port_termination changes the circuit, but it is a
convenient way to handle the case when there are no connections. The only real
need for this is when you have a true Touchstone file, then you could use this
to terminate the unused ports.
Bob asked if the Unused_port_termination is missing, do the unused ports
default to terminate with the reference impedance. Radek commented that the
default should be to leave unused ports open. He thought it would be okay for
the model makers to terminate to the port impedance. Bob commented that we
should add a note about this to the document. Michael agreed and stated that
he would work with Bob off-line to put something together.
Mike moved to adjourn. Bob seconded. The meeting adjourned without
objection.
