If you have a DVD recorder plugged in with 40 wire IDE cable, this can happen. DVD requires the 80 wire IDE cable. K3B isn't the problem, as it is simply the front end GUI for CDrecord. When we ran other GUIs, like XCDroast, they were the front end GUI for CDrecord. If there is a problem, it is probably hardware related.
