The individual will be building web applications intended to operate on a UNIX system. While the emphasis will be on development of open source tools for the humanities, development of commercial applications may be required as well. Must be proficient in high level languages such as Java or C++. Web applications will support research in the humanities, and itwill be important for the individual to have knowledge of development processes and modern design issues, and to keep up with trends in the field. Back-end programming or applications skills useful for the Center, such as relational database creation using SQL flavors like MySQL or PostgreSQL; XML processing or programming; and scripting skills may be necessary for various research projects in the Center. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field plus one year of Java or C++ programmingor equivalent computing language experience is required; equivalency considered. Knowledge of personal computer applications, server-side programming, XML and a deep familiarity of UNIX OS necessary. Demonstrated interest or background in the humanities required.
