Does the memory really increase that much wih that patch? Did anyone try it?

htop 1.0.3 ... 2.0.1 is always ~ 4MB RSS on start with a moderate process list:
htop 1.0.3 with patch, Debian 7: 3848kiB
htop 2.0.1 without patch, Fedora 23: 4032kiB
htop 2.0.1 without patch, Debian 7: 4164kiB

The memory usage is more dependant on the size of the process list and features, e.g. running lsof on firefox inside htop 2.0.1 on Debian doubles the footprint to 7856kiB.

I find this memory use quite acceptable for the capability of the tool.
But I second hisham that any code duplication is bad. Hence I kindly asked him to come up with a better way to integrate tools into the trace screen.
E.g. make the list of tools configurable. This would allow people to integrate what they need and htop would basically just re-use its capability to capture stdout and page / search that.
