Go to wj5o website. He details how to convert a cb rig. A proper xtal swap
and a retune is about it. He explains it very well.

Most run around 5 watts. Many are converted cb rigs (like mine). To better
answer your question, go to my beacon list: wi5v.net and scroll up
to 28.200 to 28.300 and look at the entries and their info on power
antenna, QTH, etc. (Same stuff I asked you about). Most run vertical
antennas because they have low angle of radiation and are omnidirectional.
( I'm using a radio shack 1/4 wave whip on top of my boat stall, steel roof
at Lake Murray OK.) I'm using a 40 year old Midland CB rig and it performs
flawlessly housed in a plastic box next to my boat outdoors. I have under
$20 in it. It has a cooling fan and keyed by the Ultra Picokeyer.

No problem. back up batteries a must! Didn't realize you were solar
powered. I'm getting spots now, so band is partially open to the East of
me.

Danny.
Not much solar charging today so bad to shut down the beacon until
tomorrow.
I will try to prevent this from happening again by having a reserve
battery always available.
