Hi, Keith, WB2VUO here in Amherst, NY I have heard YV5B and 4U1UN while in the
mobile. Everything else I am hearing on 10 has been digital activity on 28.074
MHz, this kn the FT8 mode. Saying this, I have heard and worked hams from
local in the same town out to Chile and Argentina from my location near
Buffalo. The detectable threshold for FT8 is 12 to 15 dB better than for SSB
and 4 to 6 dB better than CW according to the developers. Between this, and
most digital stations running 40 - 200 watts, this is no surprise. My antennas
are modest, a Solarcon 5/8-wave CB vertical and an MFJ-1775 short rotary
dipole. I also have a Hustler 6BTV, but it's not up at this time. I would love
to post a list of beacons heard like WJ5O has recently, but the digital is
filling in my band.I have a QRPp TX from N2NXZ 's ballooning earlier this year.
I want to get it on the air, but health issues have kept that from happening
(Gotta stop moving furniture and falling down stairs!), but it will be on.
