Hi there HENCNY List Member. . .

Welcome to our second bi-monthly e-newsletter.

We have just wrapped up (or unwrapped?) our holiday season - the busiest we
have ever experienced. Since Wesley was playing the lead role in the
Syracuse Stage presentation of Oliver - we had a constant flow of family
from all over the Northeast to see him in one of his 23 or so shows
(including a surprise visit from his Aunt Diana and cousin Philip from
Cincinnati on closing night). (To see Wes's picture, go to
www.davidandlaurie.com/wespics.html.) Our little house has been bursting at
the seams with our three beloved English Springer Spaniels, our cat,
Jeremiah, Rebekah, and Katie home from college, and Josiah inviting his band
members over to practice regularly!

 =============================================
 Words of Encouragement!

Now is about the time many Moms put away the Christmas decorations and then
suddenly realize . . . it's January! The school year is half over! In our
home that always means a new look at how each of our children is doing and a
re-evaluation of our goals and methods in our home school year.

If you find yourself needing a little re-evaluation -- may we suggest that
you take some time and work through the evaluation forms on pages 94-96 of
our book (The Guidance Manual for the Christian Home School) for each of
your children. This is a constructive process that in our home replaced a
downward spiral of complaining and lack of productivity that are part of the
winter doldrums for many families.

If the curricula you have been using isn't working out -- try something
new. That doesn't necessarily mean spending more money - you could trade
with a family that is having the same problem or use library and/or internet
resources in lieu of a standard curriculum. Set up some field trips with
other families or start a once a week group lesson program with a few other
families (with Moms or Dads as teachers). Before you know it Spring will be
upon us and you will be able to look back on a fruitful winter!

 ===========================================================

Before we share what's happening in our lives these days, we wanted to let
you know about what's happening on the business/ministry front . . .

Education" now on two of the Focus on the Family websites . . .

3.) Our favorite pick for curing the winter doldrums???

Cerebellum Standard Deviants(tm) Videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs - $19.99 and up.
. . Yes, we've talked about them before, but they are some of our all-time
favorites! If you haven't tried these products yet, you need to. Though
these videos and DVDs are not very long, they were designed to review a full
semester of college level work in a funny and captivating format. They are
useful for high school classes as supplemental material and some use them as
a core curriculum. Even if you already have a base curriculum, these are
inexpensive enough to use as backup - encountering the information from a
course in more than one way is very beneficial to the learning/mastery
process. Our children have also used them in tandem with the REA The Best
Test Prep for the CLEP books as the means of preparing for a CLEP exam. (If
you don't know about CLEP you need to get our book! This program allows
students of any age to take an exam for $46 that is worth 3-9 college
credits.)

Our children in college also use the Cerebellum products for review. (One
thing to keep in mind. . . they are secular in content. But isn't it better
to expose your children to these things while they are still in your home?
We think so. It leads to good interaction as you help your child learn
discernment and Christian responses to other ideas. Also, many of the
titles we carry have been reviewed for family viewing by Mary Pride.)

  4) WINTER SCIENCE LAB CAMPS IN FLORIDA ARE COMING SOON!
  ===========================================================

Plans are in place for some great Creation Science Labs for students of all
ages in warm, sunny Florida this Winter!

Why doesn't the family get away from the New York cold and take a Florida
vacation with a purpose!

A Creation Geology Lab and a Creation Biology Lab Family Camp of three (3)
days each (two classes in 6 days), taught by Dr. and Mrs. Gary Parker and
Dr. and Mrs Charles McCombs, of Genesis Ministries
(www.genesisministries.com) will be acceptable for one high school/college
or graduate lab credit in each subject area.

They are scheduled in two-lab sets for the weeks of February 11-16 and
February 25-March 2, 2002. A special college lab is scheduled for March
10-16 too! (It's Spring Break for many college students.)

Pricing will be $125 for both science labs the same week (for just one, it
is less--keep reading on for the details) for the first student, $100 for
the second student, $75 for the third student, $50 for the fourth student,
and $50 for each additional student in a family unit.

Each class is 3 days long, Sunday night through Wednesday
noon, and Wednesday night through Saturday noon, so you can
stay and learn the whole week, or do just one three-day
 session.

For each 3-day session, costs are $100 for the first student, $75 for the
second student, $50 for the third student, and $35 for each additional
student. So you can either come a few days early and visit your favorite
"tourist trap," then join us, or visit us first and then you can then go on
to one of the Florida resorts for a few days before returning home.

To register, all you need to do is send a check or money order for $25 per
family unit. A family unit is a father, mother and students from the same
household, including grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins (and even
student friends) WHO WILL BE TRAVELING AS A GROUP TO THIS EVENT.

Make your check or money order payable to Dr. Gary Parker.
This is a non-refundable $25 deposit that counts toward the
 registration.

Please include the check or money order with the following

 reduced price per lab)

Dr. Gary E. Parker is Professor of Biology at ICR (Institute for Creation
Research) and approved to offer credits through the Graduate School at ICR
and Christian Heritage College, and Christian Education Units through ACSI.
He is an internationally known speaker and author (e.g. "Creation: Facts of
Life," and, with Dr. Henry Morris, "What is Creation Science?"

The Family Program and Home School Credit is provided by Mrs. Mary Parker,
Museum Curator, field paleontologist and "Dry Bones" author, Dr. Charles
McCombs, chemist who loves exploring God's Word and God's world, and Mrs.
Janis McCombs, inspiring educator with 20 years experience!

To enjoy a week in fabulous Florida, building "heart, soul, mind, and
strength" through a "CREATION EDUCATION VACATION" demands no instructional
fee for non-participants caring for younger children or just vacationing.
Additional costs for food and lodging will vary, beginning with
budget-friendly camp food (cheaper than home!) and tenting. Peace River
Campground and Arcadia Best Western have special rates for the week.

Reasonable eating-places (fast food, Chinese, BBQ, buffet, etc.) are
nearby. You will want money for outings, canoes, field trip gas, some
entrance and credit fees, books, videos, and souvenirs! Courses include
Paleontology (fossils), scientific creationism, field biology/ecology,
marine/aquatic biology, and Genesis & geology. Workshops will cover Dry
Bones, Florida fossils, sharks, shells, manatees, and dinosaurs!

Activities all stress the gospel's four C's: Creation (God's Design),
Corruption (Man's sin), Catastrophe (Flood) and Christ (Salvation).

This is a great time to get away and camp in a tent, motor home, trailer,
or at the Best Western Hotel in Arcadia, Florida!

Do us a favor. If you are interested in booking this great
earning vacation, don't delay! Email Dr. Gary Parker with
your registration (see above) at creation@xxxxxxxxxx, or fax at
863-494-9110, or mail to the address mentioned above.

The nice thing about the Peace River in the winter is that it never gets
below freezing there! And in February, that will be a very welcome idea for
us snowbirds!

Remember, non-participants (parents, aunts, uncles, babies,
 etc.) are no charge.

Camping or hotel costs, food and transportation are additional. [See
information above.] But if you are taking a vacation anyway, this is a
great way to mix learning and fun!

Very few vacation spots are better than the Peace River in
 southern Florida in the Winter!

Hardship scholarships are available too. So if your budget
is tight, don't decide not to come! Contact us and let's see what we can do
to help!

The first week (2/10-16) will start with Biology and end with Geology; the
second (2/24-3/2) will be the reverse with Geology first, and then Biology,
so we can accommodate as many different scheduling needs as possible.

This stuff is critical information for developing the
foundations of a proper Christian worldview! Don't miss out. It's
appropriate for all students, whether home, publicly or privately schooled.
In fact, we think that it is essential!

Our point here is to get it on the calendar! February is
less than a month away so start planning now! See you in warm, sunny, fun
Florida this coming February, or March, 2002!

Dr. Parker's labs will help you fill a gap in your secondary schoolers'
science Biology and Geology lab curriculum (grades 9-12), and allow you to
add that lab credit to your child's high school transcript! Plus, get
college credit too! He or she will take home great materials, learn some
wonderful science from some well-respected Christian Creation scientists,
and work through some fantastic science kit projects that will be able to be
taken home.

We believe there is no better science teacher in America than Gary Parker!
(Mary, Charles, and Janis aren't too shabby either.) This is an event you
don't want to miss, Especially during the coming cold dark days of Winter,
2002!

Why not join us in sunny Florida! (Are you seeing a pattern
here?--Winter=COLD! Sunny Florida in February=Nice & Warm! Convinced you
yet?)

Again, if you have any questions, contact: Forest Reynolds
 at 863-491-0415 or Gary Parker at 863-494-9558;
Fax #: 863-494-9110; The email address for Dr. Parker:

Hope to see you at the camp!

 -----------------------------------------------------------

So, here's what the family is up to this month . . .

Since we have not found a house in the Rochester area as yet, it appears
that we will remain in Syracuse for the time being, maybe permanently.
Besides - Katie has decided to continue at Onondaga Community College here
in Syracuse for now, Josiah is now in mid-season of our home school
basketball league (The Syracuse Eagles), and Wesley is committed to another
theatre production at LeMoyne College for the Spring. Jeremiah is deciding
whether to take a few college courses locally instead of "dorming it" at
Roberts. He wants to be available to help us with the homeschooling
ministry this year. That means that Rebekah is our only "on-campus" student
at the moment.

We are glad to say that Jeremiah and Rebekah finished off another very
successful semester at Roberts Wesleyan College - and at least Rebekah is
preparing to return for the spring session in a couple of days. Both had
very high GPA's! Another homeschooling success story.

Laurie has finished "The Best Test Prep for the CLEP General Biology" for
Research Educational Associates, to be released in the Spring, and has moved
on to work on our much requested high school science curriculum (never a
dull moment around here) as well as some other book projects. David is busy
scheduling for this year's conferences, working on some projects with Focus
On The Family and others along with his "real job" as usual.

Please pray for David as he seeks God's direction for his professional
career path. There are some very exciting options that could be quite
impacting on not only his business relationships but the Kingdom of God as
well. And make sure to "stop by" one of our crosswalk.com chat nights
(Friday and Saturday nights - check our website for more info) to chat with
David!

We are looking forward to seeing many of you as we begin our traveling
season this Spring -- including speaking at the South Carolina and
Washington state conventions. We also will be speaking at a curriculum fair
in New Jersey in March. (These are the events scheduled so far).
May God richly bless your winter with prosperity, wisdom, and the fruit of
the Spirit!
