DEAR LIST,
I am proud to announce that this Tuesday evening, November 29th,
from 6 to 8 pm we will be launching my first book of fine art photographs,
BARBADOS CHATTEL HOUSES. The venue is the lovely, old Main Guard building at
the Historical Garrison Savannah here in Barbados.

There are more than 115 black and white photos of chattel houses
which I shot with my 8X10 camera, Tri-x in PMK. The text was written by a true
renaissance man, Professor Henry Fraser, who is President Emeritus of the
Barbados National Trust, a historian of Caribbean architecture with half a
dozen books to his credit, a pharmacologist, recently retired dean of the
University of the West Indies newly formed College of Medicine on the Barbados
(a.k.a. Cave Hill) campus, and founder of the Barbados Infectious Diseases
Institute. And he is an accomplished oil painter! Busy guy!
I scanned the 8X10 negs myself with my Epson V750 PRO and
Frotoshopped and prepared the CMYK Tiff files so the printer could print the
book in four-color holding the tones and nice warm color that I wanted. All of
the photos in the book are also offered as platinum-palladium prints in three
sizes.
The publisher is based in Trinidad and the book was printed in Hong
Kong. The photos have a nice “cross over” from fine art to documentary
photography. I shot my first chattel house in 1996 so I feel are as much
relief as pride! ;-))
The publisher will be arranging to put the book on Amazon and I
will let all know when it is done…hopefully soon, before Xmas.
