[haiku-development] how to handle font overlay in Haiku?

Hello all.

I have reported this issue

And I want to try to fix it, maybe I can't resolve before Alpha 3.

I have searched how to handle fonts overlay, and found the methods
that Gnome use to solve font substitution - fonts-conf
http://freedesktop.org/software/fontconfig/

I think Haiku has the similar function or app. but I don't what it is
or what codes are used to solve it. 

I need some help about it.
