it would make more sense to provide a sensible and consistent behaviour for new users.I guess you're right, but that should be fixed within Tracker, then - maybe with a hidden setting so that the older people don't have to relearn? :-)
Consistency is the "big win" that Haiku should be able to provide but which Linux never will. So it's pretty crucial that the stuff Haiku ships is internally consistent. Another issue here was mentioned on the forum recently, and is about whether drop-down menus require a click to close or close on mouse button release. ProcessController and PowerStatus do different things here - and that's extremely confusing, especially so for new users (the whole release-to-select mechanism is pretty unusual in other OSes I've used). Wrong place to discuss this, I know...
Simonps: I'm definitely in the "accept first click" crowd - but not sure that should actually move the window to the front. It probably also would work better if widgets responded on mouse-over to offer feedback that the first click will have an effect.
