 The in-memory syslog buffer is located in a somewhat higher memory range
 which normally shouldn't be overwritten by the BIOS or boot manager
 software (though I don't know how far e.g. grub can be trusted in this
 respect -- it did work with the grub version(s) I used as I introduced the
 feature). I did a quick test with a relatively recent revision and it
 seems the feature is simply broken ATM. :-/ Sorry.
