 Not sure if that qualifies as the same kind of ''blackout'' being
 discussed here, but the whole OS can be put to a long freeze by a simple
 trick (see #8007).. If that ticket was related to this ticket, well it
 would be too good to be true I guess? Indeed with a multi-second blackout
 (?) that is trivially simple to reproduce, and affects media_server as
 well as app_server and even the mouse pointer, it would make it easy to
 debug the whole thing, by dropping into KDL to see what's going on ...etc,
 right ?

 Ignore me if that is entirely unrelated, but I'm posting this comment on a
 hunch that maybe it's not..

 P.S. everybody, make sure to be in mono-processor mode when trying to
 reproduce #8007 (or even this ticket here for that matter)
