Comment:

This feature wasn't removed, but is now just less prominent. As
ShowImage's main purpose is to "show images" (hey!), zooming and panning
is the most common use case. That's why leftclick-dragging does the
panning now (and the mouse-wheel the zooming). Selections are still
possible, either by ALT or CTRL and leftclick-dragging. You can also
 activate {{{Edit | Selection mode}}} and don't have to press a modifier
for selecting (i.e. the old behaviour).[[BR]]
In the future this mode switche may get an icon in an optional tool bar.

The feature to drag a selection inside a window was removed completely. It
wasn't very flexible (selections couldn't be resized), it's more confusing
than helpful to the regular user (even with an alert to save the changes)
and in general this sort of thing is better done with a real editor like
 WonderBrush.

Basic photo editing like resizing, croppping and brightness/colour
adjustment etc. could be added in the future with an extra editing
mode+toolbar if that won't bloat the app too much, isn't taking away from
its instant launch and, of course, if someone finds the time for an
elegant implementation. Patches welcome, as always. :) [I recommend
outlining any plans on the mailing list before starting...]
