Indeed. A problem with audio is most likely, since the media_server is not
started in safe mode. When the system freezes, you could try to enter the
kernel debugger with Alt-SysReq-D and in the KDL, you could type "ints" to
get information about interrupts. It sounds a bit like it is an interrupt
storm.
